When Ann and I were teenagers, we were making and decorating a cake. (This is my version of the story,. I’m sure if Ann reads this, she may have her own version. But this is the true version, because it is mine 😁).
We were working together to make frosting. Ann was putting everything in and mixing. I was running all the errands. Ann asked/told me to go get something out of the storage room downstairs. I was tired of doing all the running, so I picked up the bag of powder sugar to hit her with it. I truly thought I grabbed the opened end, but I had grabbed the closed end. I swung the bag and powder sugar went everywhere. Mom was down in the laundry/sewing room doing some laundry or sewing. She was furious with me. I was very very sorry. I started to help clean up. Mom was so mad she didnt want any help. She kicked me out of the house to clean it up. Powder sugar was everywhere, even in the very recently cleaned out China cabinet. Have you ever added water to powder sugar. It became a sticky mess. It took mom a while to clean it up. I really did feel bad about this incident. I think this was one time, I really saw my mom angry. She had every right to be angry with me. Mom really was a great example of how to make us feel disciplined without yelling or spanking.
