My senior year of high school we were on what they called split sessions.  That meant that the high school students started at 7am and the junior high students started like 2pm.  The high school was out at 1pm.  Because of this schedule, I picked up a job working in constructions.  I would go to work at about 2pm and work until about 6pm.  Of course I would rather work than go to school at that time in my life.

There were several times that I would come home from work and on the stove was the best homemade rice pudding.  My mom was always so thoughtful that she would just make something special for us.  This was the best oven baked rice pudding you ever tasted.  Of course, that was when I could eat as much as I wanted without gaining weight.  Never the less, mom was the best cook ever and I believed that she loved to spoil her kids with treats and of course the best meals ever.

You see, she worked her whole life outside the home as well as keep one of the cleanest houses in the neighborhood.  I did not appreciated it at the time, but I do now.

I have tried to duplicate that rice pudding that she made and sorry to say, I have not even come close.

Mom, thank you so much for all you did for us.  You were the quiet servant in my opinion.
