Tonya and I went to the Oregon coast for a nice week of vacation in April 2015. We stayed at Newport, Oregon in a nice 1 bedroom condo. Newport is a quaint little coastal town about an hour south of Portland. They have this spectacular bridge at the south end of the city.
During the week we drove south and then north along the coast, taking in all the beauty that the Oregon Coast has to offer. It was spectacular. Tonya and I captured the whole trip in photo and video, which I have put under Photos, Newport Oregon 2015.
One stop off interest to me, was the city of Tillamook, Oregon. We toured the cheese factory there. This brought back a flood of memories to me. During my years of going to Utah State University in Logan Utah, I worked at Gossner’s Cheese Factory. I made chedder and swiss cheese. The Tillamook cheese factory is now all automated and so there is very little manual intervention in the cheese making process. But there was a single vat of cheese that they were working, which is how I made the cheese.
All that cheese had to be scooped out of the vat and into cartons to be stored in a warm room. It was a lot of hard work, but it did get me through school.
Tonya had to spend that last day of our trip touring by herself. I wasn’t feeling the best and spent most of the day in bed. She went back to the shopping area and had a good time. She didn’t have to pull the anchor around with her as she walked through the stores looking at things.
