Anytime you are in an airplane for seven or eight hours, with layovers, you start to wonder about the journey. That didn’t stop the guilt, though, as I was able to stretch my legs out to the full length. Other than that, the flight was uneventful.
The morning started at 4 a.m. home. My day, picked us up at around 4:50 a.m. Our flight left Salt Lake around 7 a.m. and landed in Phoenix an hour and 20 minutes later. Three hours later we left Phoenix for the Big Island of Hawaii. We landed in Kona, Hawaii over 6 hours later. Hawaii is four hours behind Utah time.
The Kona airport is all about the open air concept. The luggage retrieval is covered but no walls. The shops were in small buildings, but other than that we would have got wet if it would have been raining.
We then spent a couple of hours getting our rental car. We decided to upgrade to a 4 door jeep wrangler. They say that there are some nice places to go in a jeep. We shall see if the upgrade was worth it.

While checking in we were told about a restaurant, Akule, nearby used by the locals and priced reasonably. So after getting our luggage in the condo, went to find the restaurant. Not knowing exactly where we were going we made a wrong turn and got lost and there it was, the restaurant. The food was good. After eating, we went to Target and purchased some groceries, arriving back at the condo around 9 p.m., which is 4 hours past the time my body usually lays down to sleep. So, to say the least, I was tired by this time.
