Recently I started reading a thick book that has set on my bookshelf for years. Each time I walk into my office I see it and yet I have never read it. Then a couple of Sundays ago, for some reason, I picked it up and started reading.
The name of this book is “James Henry Denning Sr. – Family History“. It is the story of my Great Grandpa and his family. There are two volumes about 3 inches thick. Just the look of them is enough to scare anyone.
The reason for the two thick volumes is that once the story about my Great Grandparents finishes, it then picks up with the stories of their children and then of their children and so on until the publishing of the book. James Henry Denning had two wives. His first wife had 9 children and his second wife had 14 children. His last child (a daughter by the name of Rachel) was born in 1914 and then 6 years later he died at the age of 66. As you can imagine, with 23 children, there are a lot of family stories to tell and the result is two thick volumes.
I have found the first stories very interesting. They start in Wales in the United Kingdom, then trek into the Salt Lake Valley, then to Malad, Idaho and finally to Iona, Idaho. Thereafter, the stories spread out to various areas of the country as the children marry and move away. Once I get to the birth of my Grandpa, George Williams Denning, the stories will take a singular path about his family. So relax, you will not be told about each and every family.
So, this is what I am going to do. As I read through the book, I going to pick out interesting stories and post them them to this BLOG. Then you have a choice to read or not to read. But remember, history can be quite fascinating.
